Strategy
This deck relies heavily upon the Fierce ability—attacking twice in a turn with monsters under the effect of Starblade’s Buff ability and other power-increasing abilities. The concept is rather simple, but the path to get there is specific. First, let’s talk about the ideal path to leveling up.
When leveling up, you need to focus on two things in your early levels: Being able play monsters early in your turn later in the game and Buffing those same monsters. As such, there are a few cards that you want to use to level up early—Green Mushroom, Officer Skeleton and Grizzly are all good level-up cards early in the game. Green Mushroom is the only level-up card that will let you equip your The Nine Dragons cards, and it is great for being able Spawn your Yeti & Pepe as well. Grizzly gives you the opportunity to Spawn monsters before you hit level 70, and Officer Skeleton gives you more of the all important Buff ability. As you are gaining levels, consider leveling up with cards like Green Slime for the Refresh ability, Resting for the Spawn 90, Serpent’s Tongue for the Crush ability, and Stone Golem for his one-use Scout ability. Ultimately, you want to hit level 70 and then use all of your monster cards offensively and equip whatever items you may draw with one big exception...
Keys to Success
It’s a good strategy to attack with Fierce monsters that have massive bonuses to damage, but Doombringer is a big back breaker in this deck. If you are able to level up with this item after level 50, you can use its Roar ability to great effect. Roar says “For each monster you have, do 20 damage to a character or monster,” and if you have 3 or 4 Spawn abilities that occur in the turn before Roar occurs, you have the opportunity to wipe out most of your opponent’s monsters before you even start attacking!
The other key to success is to never level up using a monster that has the Fierce ability. These cards are much too valuable to use as character actions instead of playing them as monsters. Ultimately, the sweet spot of this deck is right around level 70, but you can start inflicting good damage around level 50 if you get the right draw via Starblade’s built-in Buff ability.
Final Thoughts
This deck is one of the few in the group that can consistently defeat Charles’ "Something Wicked This Way Comes" deck. If you have the opportunity, you can replace Serpent’s Tongue with another The Nine Dragons or Doombringer. Since a good chunk of the cards in this deck are from the starter or are easier to get, you should be able to put it together rather easily. Finally, remember to have fun with it—after all, it’s only a game.
