Set 2 Card Preview - Papa Pixie

Papa Pixie

Today’s card is very simple, despite all of that rules text. Looking at the text on the card image, you will read thirty-five words, more text than has ever appeared on a Maple Story card before. Let me make it really simple: Papa Pixie’s Time Warp is thirty-five words of awesome. It lets you take another turn in the middle of your current turn, going down your stack of character actions and wrecking your opponent all over again!

Never before has a Bowman had access to a powerful high-end tactic. In set one, Bowman tactics topped out at level 40. Usually, Magicians are given these types of cards, because it matches the flavor of the RPG. Time Warp was designed for Bowman because they have the most damaging character actions, and because Papa Pixie is a Bowman Boss in OMG! Bosses.

Playing this card is difficult. Both halves of the card are designed for the late game, so you probably do not need four copies in your deck. You might get away with running three, especially if you splash Magician’s card-drawing effects. The trick is to find an enabler and set it up for turn eight or nine, when you have a stack of several damaging character actions.

By the time you can play this card, your character action stack should be full of damage for your opponent. Drake from set one and Phantom Watch from OMG! Bosses both have Deadly Shot as their level-up action. (80BBB for 30 damage is twice as nice when you do the Time Warp!) But perhaps another devastating trick is with a new mechanic: Arrow Storm.

Two cards in OMG! Bosses have the Arrow Storm level-up ability. The ability costs 40B, and it reads “Choose a character or monster. Do 10 damage to it +10 for each Arrow Storm used already this turn.” Let’s suppose your character action stack has three of these in play. The first does 10, the second does 20, the third does 30, then you Time Warp, and you do 40, then 50, then 60! If you want to pull this deck together, look for Janitor’s Mop and Final Attack: Bow in your OMG! Bosses booster packs.

While Time Warping your damaging character actions seems like fun for you (if not your opponent), don’t go overboard. You need to play monsters if you plan on surviving long enough to pull off your big turn. Include some midrange monsters and ways to spawn them, counting on your character actions to clean up the small monsters your opponent may play.
