A Letter from Candice

You may be wondering how I got the idea to write Time Spies. One of my inspirations is that I loved fantasy stories when I was a kid. My favorite childhood book is The Diamond in the Window, by Jane Langton, an exciting blend of fantasy, history, and mystery. I grew up on Edward Eager's fantasy books like Knight's Castle and The Time Garden. I remember reading an English time travel fantasy called Hubble's Bubble. I don't remember the author, but I never forgot the main character's name -- Alaric. I named one of my cats Alaric!
My other inspiration for Time Spies is that I am living in the wrong century. Once, when I was ten years old, I wandered around an old country cemetery. As I read the tombstones, I wished I lived in long-ago days. It was such a strong feeling, I realized I was born in the wrong time. If I had my own enchanted spyglass, I would go back to 1900. And I wouldn't come back. I hope you have as much fun reading Time Spies as I had writing it.
