Mirrorstone™ Fantasy Novels for Young Readers
Submission Guidelines
Thank you for your interest in publishing with Mirrorstone™. Mirrorstone is the children’s/young adult imprint of Wizards of the Coast. We are distributed by Random House, Inc. We will happily consider unsolicited and unagented submissions, but only if they follow the guidelines below.
Mirrorstone is interested in considering proposals for chapter books, standalone novels, and series fiction, aimed at children and young adults ages 6-9, 8-12, or 12 and up. We will consider most forms of speculative fiction: high fantasy, low fantasy, horror, science fiction, or paranormal mystery. We are not interested in realistic fiction. We are currently not interested in picture books or picture book series.
We are not currently accepting submissions for our shared worlds, Star Sisterz™, Knights of the Silver Dragon™, Dragonlance: The New Adventures™, Time Spies™, or Hallowmere™. Also, we are not accepting submissions for picture books.
Stand-Alone Novels
If you are interested in having your completed novel for middle-grade or young adult readers considered for publication, please submit the first three chapters and a one- to two-page plot synopsis.
Your work should be typed, double-spaced, with 1-inch margins. On the first sheet, please include your name, address, phone number, and email address. The pages should be numbered consecutively, with your name and an abbreviated title somewhere on each page.
With your sample, please include a cover letter, providing some context for the sample you’re submitting (a short overview of the novel it is from and any other relevant information). Also, please include a list of any relevant writing credits.
Series Proposals
If you have a series you would like to pitch, please send a list of writing credits, along with a series proposal. Your proposal must include an overview of the characters, setting, and series concept; information about how you see the series fitting into the current market (competition to other series, etc.), an outline for the first book in the series, along with three sample chapters of the first book in your series. Finally, please include some sort of overview of additional books in the series.
For all submissions, you must include a stamped, self-addressed envelope, with the Mirrorstone address in the top left corner, plus an unaltered signed legal agreement, included on the website (22k ZIP/PDF) at: http://www.wizards.com/books/downloads/SubmissionAgreementOpen2004.zip.
You must be 18 or older to submit work to Wizards of the Coast.

What Happens Next?
If your writing seems like a good fit for us, we will contact you. We generally take 4 to 6 months to reply. Please don’t call or email us to check on the status of your submission. Instead, drop us a note, and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
Please remember: Mirrorstone accepts proposals for only chapter book, middle grade, and YA speculative fiction. Please do not send any unsolicited picture book manuscripts.
