Sophie Chapman

Five-year-old Sophie is the baby of the family. Sophie is different from her brother and sister. She has fine blonde hair, for one thing. Her eyes are blue. She is small and fine-boned, shy and sensitive.

Yet Sophie is very much her own self. She carries a small stuffed elephant named Ellsworth (a girl). When she named her toy Ellsworth, the others told her it was a boy's name, but Sophie stood her ground.

Of all the kids, Sophie adjusts to the move the quickest. She is perfectly at home in the old inn. Even Mattie and Alex acknowledge their little sister has a special relationship with small creatures like birds and bugs. And only Sophie can see the ghost horse the inn is named after.

Sophie is open to new ideas. She is not surprised when the magic spyglass takes them back in time. In fact, she expects something special to happen.
